Week 11: Reflection

Remuneration
                                                         The Last Suprematist Sculpture

Nicholson, Joshua Daniel

Remuneration is pretty much your entitled to be paid when you do work either as an employee or a sole trader meaning working for yourself.
The presentation was very informative and well presented. There were a few things that i picked up that are important to know for when I go to find work in the near future. If your working for yourself you have the opportunity to work when you want and as you please where as if your employed by someone you would be working on wages and have certain expectations and deadlines that need to be met. If working for yourself meaning as a sole trader there can be a lot of factors that you base the charge that you've given your client on some can include location, time taken to complete the work, job position etc, but of course there can be a lot of stresses when working for yourself. An split payments are generally the best way to be paid as from what I've learn't no employer of client is going to pay the full 100% payment upfront.

Understanding of conflict in relation to my group

In relation to remuneration within my group , most of these rules do not apply to us as we are currently students. If this was a paid job given to us by John James though the way that the group would probably charge him is by calculating how much time we need to do the work by the price for each person that does something how much they take an hour. John James comes to check progress on the work being completed, nearly every three to four weeks so it would be ideal that he split our payment in that way as well. Before the group agrees to any work it is improtant that a contract if made between John and ourselves is read thoroughly so that our rights are covered.

Week 10: Reflection

Conflict

Aerial Ropeway in a World Heritage Environment

Chew, Bao Wen
Taylor, Shaun Kelvin
Yolola, Jesharelah Alayan
Gonzales, Roschelle Anne
Corre, Eugelyn Lor Flores
Bautista, Reina Pineda

Conflict occurs within groups when there is certain disagreements and indifferences between individuals in a group. During this groups presentation I learnt that there are different types of things that conflicts can occur from whether it be based on gender, background or even leadership. An example when conflict can arise, that would relate to our project would be when one team member relies on another to get the job done and it may not happen can cause tension.
The group presented a great presentation and explained to us different types of conflict really well and certain ways to resolve them. Because the group hasn't encountered many issues throughout the project they created and entertaining video that showed certain scenarios of conflict and how they can avoid or solve them.

Yan, Daming

Good presentation by this group overall, the main thing that I took from this group is that conflict can arise from a persons behaviour. The groups main categories resolutions for responding to conflict are accommodating, avoiding, compromising and collaborating. The presentation was very brief, the presentation slides were simple which made it easier to understand what each slide is about rather than having slides packed with information making it difficult for us to read. The group encountered a few errors occurring whilst they were trying to do certain things this was a little frustrating for them as I understood for them at times, but by sitting down as a group together they were able to find out what was going wrong and resolve their issues and get the work done reducing any conflicts within the group.

Understanding of conflict in relation to my group

Overall my group has not encountered any conflict. The types of conflict that we thought may occur within our group were that people were not going to do the work that was assigned to them or not cooperate well with the rest of the team members due to certain differences but so far throughout the project nothing has come up. If issues did arise there are certain ways that we can resolve them or prevent them from happening they include set time frames to get work done, keep reminding each other when certain types of work is due and set task evenly or based on a persons strengths and skills.

Week 8: Progress

During this week I began applying the textures to the building. A common issue that kept occurring throughout the application was the texture tiles were too small, this was fixed by changing the x and y parameters of the tile to look better on the building. Another issue was the parts of the building were joined together during the import in order to fix this Theodore had to separate the pieces of the building and then reimport it to the unity game engine.

Below are some screenshots that i have taken of  with the textures applied to the building, there are still a few things that need to be fixed and tweaked in terms of the application, this should be done before the final submission.

The way the texture looked once the original tile size was applied.

I was very please with the choice I made for the brick on the walls, I believe it has a very similar resemblance to the brick on the actual building.

The texture that was added to the roof can been seen fairly clearly here suits really well the brick on the walls.

I went with a rustic metal for the window shutters and the gutters around the building as it a fairly old church which has been around for many years.

The rafters and beams of the building are made out of wood and used to hold the roof up over time wood changes colour and begins to deteriorate based depending on the weather so this texture worked out really well for the church shows signs of the churches old age.

Week 8: Reflection

Intellectual Property

I was not able to make it to class to watch the presentations for the week, due to some personal reasons, so I decided to do my own research on the topic and reflect on how that relates to our project.

Understanding of intellectual property in relation to my group

The best way to describe intellectual property is that it is rights to ideas that have been developed by a certain individual’s mind. This can come in many forms either through a brand, patents, trademarks or even something as simple as quotes.
The idea of our project came from our client John James, the intellectual property is for him. To be able to complete the project each of the team members, has been coming up with many ideas and visions in order for the project to come to life so intellectual property is being shared; but at the same time each group member is being acknowledged for their work and ideas that are going towards the project.

Week 6: Progess

This week I went through a range to textures in the unity assets store and picked the ones that I believe would best suite the church, below are just some of the many that I through and the ones that I finally picked.

This is the main texture that I have chosen for the building, it will cover mainly the walls.
I have chosen a different texture concrete texture for the window sills and the concrete lining around the building.

For the roof I have to go for a concrete based brick as during that time it would have been a convenient material to use at the time to hold up and stay good in a range of climates.

This is the texture that I chose for the gutters around the roof and the flaps on the windows that are located on top of the tower.

The roof on the inside of the building is made out of would this old wood plank texture was used for that purpose.

All the texture looked at and that were purchased for the church are from the unity assets store.

Week 6: Reflections

Communication

The Last Supremist Sculpture

Thantrong, Andrew
Hanna, Marina

Starting off with a video on communication, it was able to tell us briefly about communication; however the presentation did not demonstrate as much, how communication relates their project.
Because they are a pair to see how the two of them have been communicating and put the work together would have been good way to explain their idea of communication and how they go about it.

The Bus Stop of the Future.

Masli, Martha
Chami, Anthony
Skarparis, Kerre
Weinman, Darren
Olivera, Daniel

Although we ran out of time, to see what feedback they got from the tutors I feel that this group demonstrated the idea of communication very well. They were able to show us the many forms of communication but I feel like the other group they were not able to
show us clearly how communication fit into their project. Overall great ending to the presentation with the video really well edited.

Understanding of communication in relation to my group

Communication was the topic that our group also presented on. Communication can happen in many ways and I believe that the group has been utilising most of them. The two main types are synchronous and asynchronous ways of communication for example our main form of communication is asynchronous as we are communicating mainly through facebook and this often takes some time for certain team members to get back to us instantly. We do have weekly group meetings this allows us to see how everyone is going in the group on their assigned parts and get feedback from our tutors this would be considered an example of synchronous. Our overall presentation went really well and the feedback that we received from the tutors was great. A few negative comments that we need to work on are looking at communication with the client and little further and have better referencing.

Week 5: Reflections

Planning

Aerial Ropeway in a World Heritage Environment

McMahon, Bethany Louise
Park, Maria Eun Ji
Parto, Daisy Danica
Hoda, Iqra Faria
Nguyen, Yen Nhien
Portokalli, Matthew Louis

The Aerial Ropeway group had a well thought out presentation by assigning certain tasks to each one of the team members and having deadlines as part of their planning process, it seems like a good way to stay organised and on track. Although many of us may have an idea of what we believe planning is and how to do it, this group was able to give us a further insight into how to plan for your project, for example using a Gantt chart to get certain things done at specific times. To end their presentation they had a well edited and enjoyable video.

The Bus Stop of the Future.

Lo, Jason How Ying
Alagah, George
Gan, Ruo Qi
Naumovski, Michael
Tang, Kangyi

The bus stop of the future group I believed had a better understanding of planning than the first because they have to work off a budget and be very cautious with time, they have had to think about planning for their project very closely and it was seen very clearly in their presentation. I’ve realised this group is well organised and have a clear indication of where they are headed. Can’t wait to see the final product.

Understanding of planning in relation to my group

I believe planning is being able to set certain tasks and goals and being able to meet their deadlines.
The planning process is something that is continuous through the whole project. Using a Gantt chart is something that kept coming up in many of the group’s presentations which seem like a good planning tool to use. I believe this is something that our group needs to establish. Although it does not set an accurate time frame in regards to completing the tasks and goals as it does not take into account any problems that we may encounter, it gives us a rough indication and could help with being able to fix up any problems on time.
By planning weekly meetings and distributing the workload evenly we should be able to get the data base running and be able to go a little further and adding that little bit extra to the project.
